The buzz in the blogosphere this week is H-U-G-E. This weekend almost 200 mummy-bloggers and other personal bloggers will descend on Sydeny for the first Australian Blogging Conference (AusBlogCon or ABC). I’m delighted not only to be going, but also to be a panelist for the session on Building Your Blogging Community.

The ukulele is such a fun instrument. Its small size makes it ideal for young kids to handle, they are inexpensive (usually around $25) and come in a range of colours. Of course, the ukulele is more than just a “toy guitar” as it is also a serious instrument in its own right.

What an absolute delight it was to be at Karen Collum‘s book launch today to celebrate her debut picture book, Samuel’s Kisses (New Frontier Publishing). A truly heart warming tale, Samuel’s Kisses is an early childhood story beautifully illustrated by Serena Geddes. Samuel blows kisses to unhappy shoppers with surprising, and entertaining results. The uncomplicated plot makes for a feel-good...

The latest release from Hi-5 has hit the shelves for January, and thanks to my friends at Roadshow I have THREE copies to give away to SquiggleMum readers. The album is full of boppy songs, bright colours, great costumes and lots of dancing. The title track, Happy House makes for a catchy opening, and my kids have been singing this one around the house.

With only two weeks to go, it’s really
looking like Christmas
sounding like Christmas
and feeling like Christmas here!
Our wreath welcomes visitors.
We’re counting down with our Advent Calendar (thanks Kelly!)
The kids have been adding to their toilet roll nativity.
The tree is sparkling.
Paper chains hang from the ceiling.
And decorations are scattered through our home.
For us, it wouldn’t...

If you are still looking for gifts for kids this Christmas, jump over to Mooo.
My favourite product (and my...

This week two fabulous kids’ magazines from the ABC have been released. The full-colour, super-glossy mags will appeal to lower and middle primary students, and are sure to entice reluctant readers. They are also an excellent way of encouraging reading during the long school holidays. I think these make fantastic stocking-fillers, or great gifts that don’t cost a fortune. You can pick them up online,...

Jimmy Giggle and Hoot the Owl are fast becoming household names in Australia. The hosts of ABC Kids have just released their first album - Beak Bopping Tunes. To celebrate the release, I had the opportunity to interview James Rees (aka Jimmy Giggle)…
Cath - Congratulations on your success as the host of ABC For Kids. Other television stations have had hosts for children’s programs for some time. Were...

School holidays are upon us again (where is this year going?!) and I have THREE family passes up for grabs just in time. The new family flick Furry Vengeance is released in cinemas today. It’s rated PG (mild comedic violence) and in my opinion is suitable for mid-primary aged kids to mid teens.
In this hilarious family comedy with a message, greedy developers pay the price for paving over paradise. For Mother...

Have you met dirtgirl yet? I knew I would like her the first time I heard about her, before I even saw an episode of the brand new Aussie children’s program. Dirtgirl is a gumboot-wearing, tractor-driving, veggie-growing girl who loves to sing and get grubby! My kind of girl.
Dirtgirlworld is a celebration of life outside! Each episode is packed with outdoor goodness and includes issues like recycling, composting,...
