Welcome to the blog tour of Footprints Magazine for Christian Women! This tour is in celebration of the 50th issue of the mag, which started out with very humble beginnings. I have contributed several articles to past issues, and am delighted to be able to give away a one year subscription to a SquiggleMum reader. I also had the opportunity to interview editor Janet Camilleri:
Janet, what did the first copy of Footprints look like, 50 editions ago?
Take a look – pretty different huh? It was VERY basic … I’m almost embarrassed now by how naïve I was and how amateurish it looks! But...

I’ve been reading a book this week that I wanted to share with you. Julie Ferwerda has just released One Million Arrows, and was kind enough to ship a copy over to me from the US so that I could join with other Christian parenting bloggers in celebrating the launch and reviewing the book. I know this book won’t interest all of my readers, but some of you will want to download the first free chapter for...

“MUM-MY! He’s throwing sand with joy!“ My daughter was not impressed with her little brother. And while I’m not a fan of kids throwing sand, I couldn’t help but laugh. Her choice of words was just so… so… funny, and so accurate. He wasn’t throwing sand with any malice. He wasn’t trying to hurt his sister, or get it in her eyes, or annoy her in any way. ...

Today is Compassion Day, an annual event which sees Compassion Australia and Christian radio stations around the country join forces. The aim this year is to have 1600 impoverished children sponsored in 16 hours. In particular this year the focus is on the children of Kenya.
Did you know that in Kenya:
20% of the population live below the international poverty line
1.2 million people are living with HIV/AIDS
2.5...

I saw the sweetest example of sacrifice. A young boy picked up the last cream biscuit from the morning tea platter at church and sat down beside my daughter. He twisted it apart (how do kids learn that?) and looked at the two halves. In one hand he had the cream half, and in the other the plain. He looked back and forth between the two hands, then passed my daughter the cream half. The cream half! I couldn’t...

Hope. Healing. Helping. These three words are on my mind this week for a couple of reasons.
Firstly, the truly beautiful Stacey Charbachi sent me a copy of her book Climbing Mountains. Wow, what a story. Stacey first discovered the lump in her breast while pregnant with her second child. Like most of us would she assumed it to be just a blocked duct, only to be diagnosed with cancer shortly after the birth...

Though we have never met, the lovely Narelle Nettelbeck from WA is a great support to me as a fellow Christian mother, writer and blogger. For the next two weeks Narelle will be featuring Aussie Christian mums in interviews and guest posts on her blog Moments For Mum. She has some amazing women lined up, and I’m privileged to be her first invited guest.
You can read my interview with Narelle here.
If you’re...

Did you catch The 7pm Project last night? They ran a story on giving gifts like goats instead of spending billions of dollars on, well, stuff.
I blogged about gifts of Compassion a couple of months ago but I’m more than happy to mention them again because they are a charity and ministry I truly believe in. I also truly believe most of us have more stuff than we could possibly need, while others have barely the...

Making the toilet roll nativity scene has become somewhat of a tradition in our house. This is the fourth Christmas with children in our home and the fourth rendition of the loo roll nativity!
The first year my daughter was still very young, so I just made Mary and Joseph and a little manger for baby Jesus. She was at the crawling and chomping stage so the characters were pretty well trashed by the time Christmas...

I just love being able to get out this fabulous felt board set each Christmas. My sister-in-law made it for my kids a couple of years ago. The board is a simple mdf square, and the background felt is attached with velcro dots. All of the characters are cut from craft felt. (If fiddling with felt pieces is not for you, check out my friend Narelle‘s suggestion for making nativity felt board characters using...
