I loved this post from Storybird about having a fascination with endpapers. I too feel that endpapers are a secret little extra for those of us who know not to flick past them to get to the start of the story. In older style hardback books, particularly children’s books, printed endpapers were used to glue the cover to the book itself. Although they are no longer necessary with today’s paperback picture books, some books still include them.
Thinking about endpapers got me thinking about the construction of books. Do you talk about the parts of a book with your child? Do you...

If you’d like to read the rest of this post about Counteracting Toddler Tactics, head over to Parenting Australia where I’m blogging today…
Nobody can tell you what the Terrible Twos are like. You have to experience them for yourself with your own child. And when you do, you understand why the phase is dubbed a terrible one. Nothing is fun about a toddler who is pushing the boundaries. The thing...

I’m usually a positive poster – but I need to get this off my chest.
Different mummy bloggers blog about life in different ways. Some write about the hard stuff. They share their heavy burdens through their blogs as a way of processing them. Some write about the good stuff. They share their successes through their blogs as a way of celebrating them. Some write about the full spectrum. But none...

I am constantly amazed at the odd socks that come through the wash every week. Where on earth do their other halves go?! I generally put lonely socks into the drawer and hope that they are soon united with their partners, but if all else fails (and they aren’t too smelly) they are given a new lease of life as puppets.
If you’ve been following my blog for a while, you’ll know that I’m not much...

I spent years in Guiding. I was a Brownie, a Guide, a Ranger Guide and a Ranger. Yep, I learnt how to tie knots, pitch tents and light campfires. I earnt all the badges and wore them with pride.

I’m blogging at Parenting Australia today! Head over there to read the rest of this post:
…Parents are embracing all things eco and encouraging kids to do the same. We are talking to them about energy efficient light bulbs, recycling, environmentally friendly cleaning products, grey water usage, organic food and renewable resources. Don’t get me wrong – I’m all for those things. It’s just that these...

Did you play with old fashioned pegs when you were a kid? You can still find packs of these wooden pegs at craft stores, and even at cheap shops (where I picked up a packet of 24 for just a few dollars).
I wasn’t sure if my daughter was quite old enough to try this project, but my very creative sister was babysitting while I was at the dentist, so I let them go for it together. As well as the pegs, I left fabric...

If you ask me, a humble box has to provide some of the best free entertainment you can get. Kids of all ages love to play in them, on them and with them. We’ve had loads of fun lately with a big empty box, and it’s been interesting to observe the different play that happens at different ages.
My ten month old has loved exploring the box itself. He has pushed it around the house like a walking frame, crawled...
