There’s a park not far from us with fabulous playground equipment, and we often enjoy going there with other mums and kids. It has ground level equipment which is fantastic for young toddlers. They feel like they are climbing but their feet are never more than 10cm off the ground. The park has a nice, wide, toddler friendly slide. And a tunnel. It has a big fort in the middle for older kids. It has swings, and a flying fox, and spinning things. It’s nicely landscaped with walking paths, bridges, stepping stones and a creek. And it has plenty of seating and shade. Really...

First Mother's Day
Don’t be fooled by the name of her blog – Bec from BadMummy is actually a great mummy. Her beautiful daughter Erin was born 14 weeks prematurely, weighing less than a tub of margarine. At just 428g she was the third smallest surviving bub born at the Royal Brisbane Women’s Hospital. Now a big 2 years old, Erin keeps her mum on her toes! Bec also blogs at Brisbane Premmies,...

Books can provide a great springboard into creative activities. After sharing a picture book together, my daughter and I often want to respond in some creative way. Sometimes as the parent I make a suggestion, but increasingly it is Little Miss 3 who is coming up with her own ideas!
This week at the library we borrowed Hairy Maclary and Zachary Quack. Lynley Dodd’s stories are guaranteed to evoke a “read...

I was so touched to receive this lovely blog award from Sarah at Faith Hope & A Whole Lotta Love.
Passing it on to 15 other bloggers is completely beyond me, but here are five Aussie Christian mummy-bloggers who I’d like to encourage. These blogs are not necessarily high-traffic sites, but they are lovely simply because the women behind them are lovely. Stop by and say hi.

*sigh* We’re still waiting. Almost ten months, and still no sign of the first tooth.
My daughter was the same. I think she got teeth before she walked, but it wouldn’t have been by much! In all honesty, it really doesn’t matter when teeth come through. My little man eats solids well, and I know that his gums are strong enough to chomp most foods.
As mums we can get ourselves so worked up and...

My daughter received a gorgeous little wooden flower press for her third birthday and couldn’t wait to try it out. I hadn’t pressed leaves and flowers since I was a girl myself, and this activity certainly brought back memories.
Firstly we went out into the garden to collect leaves with interesting shapes. We don’t have a particularly floral garden, but we did manage to find a few flowery weeds as...

Following the birth of a friend’s baby, Little Miss 3 and I were talking about names. I told her about how her name was chosen, and why it was special. We talked about choosing her baby brother’s name too. And then we talked about my name. I think I’ll always remember this sweet conversation:
Me: Everyone has a special name that their Mummy and Daddy choose for them.
LM3: Do you have one Mummy?
Me:...

Windy weather drives kids wild! It’s a fact solemnly acknowledged by parents and teachers alike. Gusty westerlies whipped through Brisbane yesterday and again today, so we did the only thing windy days are good for – kite flying! Here are three different ideas you can try, depending on the ages of your children.
1. Plastic Bag Kite – this is a super simple kite for young toddlers. We drew a face...

Most mums know that local libraries are well worth the visit, but I’m not sure that we all get the same value out of our trips. Inspired by Christie from Childhood 101, I thought I’d share my hints for making the most of your trip to the library with the kids.
Firstly, I let my kids have their own library card. Yes, they might be young, but it’s not the end of the world if they lose it. (I keep...
